Tanja Isbarn, series Isohypsen #1-7
Tanja Isbarn Isohypsen #3 is part of the Isohypsen series. These series comprises seven small, two-part works. Each piece features a more or less translucent, colored Perspex sheet placed in front of a slightly larger black-and-white drawing. Each unique drawing is partially hidden by its own color of Perspex. The colors are yellow, magenta, dark green, light green, red, or fluorescent green-yellow and orange. Tanja Isbarn engraved the Perspex sheets with wavy, parallel lines that represent the relief of a landscape, as on topographical maps. The various monochrome colors simultaneously conceal and emphasize the scenic details of the drawing behind it, giving the whole a mysterious depth. The combination of the organic drawing and the rectangular, constructed window in front of it creates a dramatic tension, even at this modest size.
Tanja equipped the works with a mounting system. A click system creates space for light and shadow, by leaving a a one-centimeter gap between the paper and the plastic. The two parts can be ‘played’ with by placing them in different positions, creating a dialogue between the two.
Mounting system details below. We include assembly instructions in the box.
