During walks, Birgit Speulman searches for unusual phenomena in nature. Things she does not yet know or that behave differently than usual. She is particularly struck by the beauty of details: structures, colors, scents, shadows, and reflections. Anything that lives and moves constantly attracts her attention, but her focus is often on the small and unsightly.
“The series originated from a digital photo (A) that I took at home of reflections of the pond on the ceiling. I developed it further by drawing over it with the mouse, in several successive transparent and partially open layers. I numbered the different stages. In the next step, I ‘cut’ small squares (kl) from these large images, focusing on the composition.”
