About Ada van Wonderen
Ada van Wonderen is a sculptor from Amsterdam, the Netherlands. She carves robust forms out of stone that evoke associations with living creatures; they are tactile and seem to have a will of their own. Form, space, and mass are important in her work. The sculptures are finished when they have something ‘unique’, a hint of ‘soul’.
Occasionally, she ventures into a different medium: woodcut. Both in stone and in print, the work is simple to look at, but anything but flat.
Woodcut
The graphic work Houtdruk has been printed in an edition of 10 copies. Museo offers you the choice between numbers 3, 5, and 6.

Sculpture
The stone is hard and heavy. Ada van Wonderen carves the form out of the rough material. Her ruler keeps track very precisely and measures what needs to be not quite straight. Sanding, grinding, and tapping reveal the time stored in the stone. A firm figure emerges. Legs lift the volume. A chiseled, rough-haired skin or a mirror-smooth polished softness reinforce the character. The stone becomes a sculpture.
