Birgit Speulman Focus AB43-4k comes from the mouse drawing series Focus, 2018/2025.
During walks, Birgit Speulman searches for unusual phenomena in nature. Things she does not yet know or that behave differently than usual. She is particularly struck by the beauty of details: structures, colors, scents, shadows, and reflections. Anything that lives and moves constantly attracts her attention, but her focus is often on the small and unsightly.
“The series originated from two different digital photographs (A) of details from nature that I captured during walks in the area, and an analog drawing (B). The drawing was made with graphite and charcoal. I combined these elements on the computer and further developed them by drawing over them with the mouse, in several successive transparent and partially open layers. I numbered the different stages. In the next step, I ‘cut’ small squares (4k) from these large images, focusing on the composition.”
