Wim Biewenga draws memories. His father was a farmer in the Hoogeland region in the north of Groningen, and kept daily records of his work, expenses, and deliveries. The notes in his work diary from the 1930s became the starting point and basis for playful yet monumental drawings in black ink, watercolor, or chalk. Biewenga engages with these historical documents and the personal sensations from his youth. Together, they now form not only the archive of Biewenga’s father, but also of his own memories, his childhood, and associations with a Netherlands that has almost been forgotten. They represent a lifetime.
