About Nanky de Vreeze

Nanky de Vreeze is no stranger to the world of art: as a gallery owner, she has more than established her reputation.
As an artist she has only recently become active, with fresh and original work, visual poetry with minimal interventions. Above all, the experience of looking has shaped her.

Found materials, light cigar boxes, heavy slabs of lead, acrylic paint. She depicts her observations with minimal means. In the landscape, she constantly discovers new possibilities. The wide horizon, cloudy skies, the stern perspective of fallow land in winter and the lovely atmosphere of summer become visual poetry in her hands. She transforms her raw materials with their history into an abstract vista in manageable size.

This series of 2022-2023 works was created in Norway, where the horizon often slopes steeply and shadows can be heavy and black. In contrast, she sets a lighter green, yellow or blue that enhances the spatial effect.
