About Milly Betten. As a painter, she creates colorful paintings based on the Frisian landscape of the north, near the Wadden Sea, where she lives.

Milly Betten: My work has a grounding in my surroundings. I drive through Friesland a lot and note in my mind silhouettes of buildings, voids and vegetation. Much is changing in the countryside. Farmland is being made even flatter and more rigid. Windmills and solar panel parks appear. There are a lot of us humans and animals on a small piece of earth. I worry about that. And so I tell the new story of this landscape in my paintings about limited space and how it is “filled.”
