Leo Cahn and his inventions

Leo Cahn about his work: “I am an entrepreneur in the field of art.
From nineteen sixty I conceive and make unique objects with sheet, wire, powder, paste, bronze, steel, silver, cement, magnesium, pencil, paper and 3D printing techniques.
Altogether some two thousand objects ranging from a quarter of a gram to several tons.

Grass vases

The artist designed this series as a sequence of objects specifically for the 3D printer. They add up from 1 opening to 25 (1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 and 25); each opening fits a grass stem. Together they form a poetic composition, in which old-fashioned craftsmanship meets modern technology. Add the roadside grass and see how this natural material completes the artwork.

Leo explains: “maybe you think a 3D print can be made in an infinite edition. In reality, the technique is particularly suitable for unique work, because one print can easily be realized. This allows me to create new designs on the same theme continuously. So my editions are always small.”
